Psalms 101 - Path to Integrity

1 A psalm by David.

I will sing about mercy and justice.
O Lord, I will make music to praise you.
2 I want to understand the path to integrity.
When will you come to me?

I will live in my own home with integrity.
3 I will not put anything wicked in front of my eyes.
I hate what unfaithful people do.
I want no part of it.
Psalms 101:1-3 (GW)

Reflection of B:

My search for the meaning of "integrity" led me to Wikipedia where it says:
Integrity is the alignment, the correspondence, between what one THINKs (beliefs, values), what one SAYs to others, and what one DOes. This is to say, integrity exists when THINK = SAY = DO. Picture each of these (THINK, SAY, DO) as a circle. When the three circles are separated, when there is no alignment between the three behaviors; the person is out of integrity. When the circles approach each other and overlap to become one circle, the person is integral. Behaviors within the concept of integrity include: honesty, sincerity, truthfulness, keeping one's word and agreements, punctuality, ethics, fairness and justice. It is said of Integrity that, "It is better to have an enemy who keeps his word, than a friend who does not"

Integrity is such an important characteristic Christians should have that King David asked God to help him understand the path to it. I have come across many people who do not have integrity or who will throw integrity away for selfish gain. Christians are not spared, unfortunately.

To practice integrity we need to know the path to it, which is the way towards God. Without God working in our lives, we are all selfish people who do not honour our words when situations are not in our favour. It's sad and disgusting to deal with people without integrity.

Dear Lord,
I want to understand the path to integrity too, just like King David did. Help me to stay true to my words and keep my commitment wheneve I have made my promise. Keep me faithful to the end.
In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Psalms 89 - Keeping Promises

11 The heavens are yours.
The earth is also yours.
You made the world and everything in it.
Psalms 89:11 (GW)

14 Righteousness and justice are the foundations of your throne.
Mercy and truth stand in front of you.
Psalms 89:14 (GW)

34 I will not dishonor my promise
or alter my own agreement.
Psalms 89:34 (GW)

Reflection of B:

How many people will keep their promises? Perhaps some will when they still feel good.

Have you ever come across guys (maybe also gals) who say that they can't keep their promises to their once loved ones, 'cos their feeling for them have changed? To these people, their feelings dictate if they should keep their promises, not integrity, not honour, not righteousness, not justice. They promise on a very weak and shaky ground, no firm foundation. Not so with God.

As Christians, we are supposed to be Christ-like. That means, we have to keep our promises base on the firm foundation of God's righteousness and justice and not on our wavering feelings.

So next time before you promise someone, be it to do something or to love someone.... think again and ask,"What is the basis of my promise?" If you can't promise... then stop and don't go ahead to mislead someone.

Dear Lord,
Thank You for keeping Your promises to me all the time. Help me to be like You, letting Your righteousness and justice guide my life. I do not want to be found as a liar, not fulfilling my promises. May Your integrity be always with me.
In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Psalms 26 and 27 - Integrity Through Seeking God

1 ...Judge me favorably, O Lord,
because I have walked with integrity
and I have trusted you without wavering.
2 Examine me, O Lord, and test me.
Look closely into my heart and mind.
3 I see your mercy in front of me.
I walk in the light of your truth.
4 I did not sit with liars,
and I will not be found among hypocrites.
Psalms 26:1-4 (GW)

4 I have asked one thing from the Lord.
This I will seek:
to remain in the Lord's house all the days of my life
in order to gaze at the Lord's beauty
and to search for an answer in his temple.
Psalms 27:4 (GW)

10 Even if my father and mother abandon me,
the Lord will take care of me.
Psalms 27:10 (GW)

Reflection of B:

Integrity is a very important value which I treasured and adhered to since young. Without which there will be no trust and no relationship can be formed. People who have no integrity put me off. I detest those who break their promises without good cause. Dishonesty in transaction also put me off.

Being sinful in nature, we can only be men/women of integrity by seeking God so that His truth will always keep us in check. Yes, even our natural parents may abandon us but God will take care of us. That's my true experience.

Dear Lord,
Thank You for teaching me to be woman of integrity. Thank You for teaching me to show mercy and grace. Thank You for transforming me day by day as I seek Your face each day. Thank You for staying with me, even when my loved ones deserted me.
Praise You, Lord!

Job 31 - My Integrity

16 Jul 07

1 “I have made an agreement with my eyes.
Then how can I look with lust at a virgin?
2 What would God above do {to me}?
What would be my inheritance from the Almighty on high?
3 Aren't there catastrophes for wicked people
and disasters for those who do wrong?
4 Doesn't he see my ways
and count all my steps?

5 “If I have walked with lies
or my feet have run after deception,
6 {then} let God weigh me on honest scales,
and he will know I have integrity.

7 “If my steps have left the {proper} path,
or my heart has followed {the desire of} my eyes,
or my hands are stained {with sin},
8 {then} let someone else eat what I have planted,
and let my crops be uprooted.

9 “If I have been seduced by a woman
or I have secretly waited near my neighbor's door,
10 {then} let my wife grind for another {man},
and let other {men} kneel over her.
Job 31:1-10 (GW)

Reflection of B:

Job insisted on his innocence and integrity, that he did no wrong to anyone. Job guard is eyes and is resolved in his heart not to lust after a woman, or face the consequences.

Our eyes are the ones that usually caused us to sin and fall. We have to keep them under control to keep our integrity. When we did no wrong we can have the boldness to speak up no matter how others may accuse us.

Dear Lord,
I pray that I will always live rightly before You s that I have boldness regardless of what others think of me. Keep me waling in the light always.
In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Job 27 - A Clear Conscience

13 Jul 07
5 It's unthinkable for me to admit that you are right.
Until I breathe my last breath, I will never give up my claim of integrity.
6 I cling to my righteousness and won't let go.
My conscience won't accuse me as long as I live.
Job 27:5-6 (GW)

Reflection of B:

Job maintained his integrity though his 3 friends continued to accuse him of sinning that resulted in his sufferings.

We need to hold fast our integrity if there is nothing for us to hide or to be ashamed of. God will be our judge and avenge us in His time.

In my past workplace, I had been accused before too. But God has always seen me through and bless me even more when I don't take vengeance into my own hands, but leave it to God.

Dear Lord,
Thank You for always being a fair judge and will always take the wrong doers to justice in Your time.
Praise You in Jesus' name. Amen.
